Theluxe 40, and 40+ models are the ultimate American voiced amps, designed to cover a wide range of musical, and playing styles.

The 40 is the basic panel switching model, no frills, all tone, while the 40+ features footswitching.

 

The clean channel is reminiscent of a finely tuned blackface amplifier, with pronounced vocal mids, while the OD channel is somewhere inbetween a hotrodded Vibroverb, and early D-style amps, or even just a straight-up cranked Super.

 

The idea here was to develop a Fender style amp that has a ton of sweet spots, with a wide array of overdrive levels, at any volume. But don't let the "F" word fool you! This amp is capable of all sorts of British style crunch, as well.

 

Avaialable to both channels are the "Fat", "Mid boost", and "Lift Switches". The Fat switch thickens up single coils, while the mid boost allows a bump of the mid frequencies to fill out the traditional Fender "scoop". The Lift partially removes the tone stack, for a gain boost, as well as a volume boost, perfect for solos.

 

Both amps feature a "Drive" control, which sets the overall OD level for the amp while in OD mode, and works in conjuction with the Gain control.

 

The 40's overall levels between the two channels is "internally set", while the 40+ features seperate Master Volume controls for each channel, to go along with the footswitching.

 

The presence control is unique in that it acts like an OD tone control, able to go from smooth, violin-like D-style tones to agressive British style voicings.

 

While developing this amp, I was simply floored at how it responds to different players' touch and approach, and how it really lets each player's style come through. This amp has quickly become my personal gigging amp, and I've found that I can "live" on the OD channel all night, just working the volume and tone controls on my tele!
